Full description

The tour starts in the morning when your guide picks you from your hotel in Sofia. You will head to Vitosha Mountain and after a short transfer will arrive at Aleko chalet situated 1850 meters (6070 ft) above sea level. This is where the hike starts and the trail will gently take you up to the highest point – Mount Cherni Vrah at 2290 m (7513 ft) above the sea. It reveals magnificent views to the mountains in the south featuring the snow capped peaks of Rila – the highest mountain on the Balkans. The picnic lunch will replenish your energy before heading back down to Aleko chalet with the trail putting Sofia at your feet and the Balkan Mountains in the North at your eye level. A short way down from Aleko is Dragalevtsi Monastery established in the 14th century. Now restored and functional it still features its church from the 15th century. After a visit to the monastery you will head back to Sofia where you will be taken back to your hotel in the late afternoon.
